PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE LOURDES FLORES NANO POINTED OUT THE NEED TO APPLY LIFE SENTENCE ON TERRORISM AND RAPE CASES DURING CONFERENCE ORGANIZED AT FACULTY OF LAW AND POLITICAL SCIENCE OF USMP

Dr. Lourdes Flores Nano, current presidential candidate and leader of the Alianza Unidad Nacional party, addressed a conference at the Faculty of Law and Political Science. She presented a briefing of her political beliefs and answered questions from the audience.
Having the presidential elections at the door, the occasion was ideal for Dr. Flores Nano to present the projects she would put in practice if elected president. The main topic of the discussion was “Constitutional Reform and Constituent assembly”.

She remarked that constitutional reforms would be applied only when necessary for a righteous administration of justice, but she does not deem necessary to build a new Constitution.

Flores Nano also highlighted the importance of improving and increasing the number of Justices of Peace, where civil processes should start before reaching the Supreme Court. The latter would not have a mandatory case load, and would select only relevant cases to establish its jurisprudence. Flores Nano also mentioned the need for a timely and expeditious administration of justice, and to make justice accessible to all, by changing the Code of Civil Procedure in order to speed up trials and eliminate dilatory appeals.

During the round of questions from local media and the audience, her most important remarks were that battered women should be educated and become aware of their rights; the importance of an education that helps create and reinforce values; and the respect to labor rights. She also criticized the penitentiary system and its overcrowding, pointing out that a good administration will not be possible if more prisons are not build. Flores Nano also stated to be in favor of applying life sentence on terrorism and rape cases.

Flores Nano thanked the democratic spirit of the audience and celebrated the freedom of expression, which is essential to any democratic society. The Students’ Democratic Alliance (Alianza Democrática Estudiantil - ADE) was in charge of inviting Dr. Lourdes Flores Nano to the Faculty of Law and Political Science of USMP.

The event took place in the Conference Hall “Rubén Guevara Manrique”. Dr. Rubén Sanabria Ortiz, Dean of the Faculty, Oswaldo Rodríguez, Secretary General of ADE, and José Antonio Cerrón, Secretary of Grupo Pro Derecho.

On Friday, March 24th, presidential candidate of Con Fuerza Perú, Peter Koechlin, will have the opportunity to express his ideas in a similar event.
